June 2017 KSSN Spotlight
For the month of June, we are shining a bright spotlight on Bianca Edwards, our community school coordinator at Godfrey-Lee Early Childhood Center (GLECC). As a community school coordinator, Bianca works closely with Principal Pete Geerling, assessing the needs of the students and families, and assisting families with access to resources around the community. She also meets regularly with parent volunteers and creates various parent engagement opportunities.
When asked about her favorite parts of the job, Bianca says it is her daily collaboration with school staff and parents, and building relationships with the kids. For Bianca, working at Godfrey-Lee Early Childhood Center is an absolute joy; she values the diversity of the families and the parents’ level of investment to the school community. She also loves the GLECC staff, and is proud of the innovative work they are doing around the Interconnected Systems Framework (the interconnection of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports and School Mental Health systems), and implementing Mindfulness with the students.
When Bianca is not busy at the Early Childhood Center, you can find her engaging in a number of past times. She is a talented singer, and enjoys reading, binge watching TV (especially HGTV), napping, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.
Interestingly, Bianca began her journey with KSSN two years ago, first as a Social Work intern from Calvin College, and then as a full-time community school coordinator. In fact, she celebrated her one-year anniversary with KSSN just last week! According to Amber Fox, Bianca’s supervisor with KSSN, “Bianca is a genuinely caring individual who has the Godfrey-Lee students’ best interests at heart.”
Bianca is an integral member of our KSSN team, and we cannot imagine doing community school work without her. We are proud to select her as our June Spotlight!
